Washington Conservation Voters endorse Kevin Ranker for State Senate
Kevin Ranker’s campaign continues to gain momentum with sustained fundraising and additional endorsements.
FRIDAY HARBOR—Washington Conservation Voters, the political arm of the state’s environmental community, that works to elect environmentally responsible candidates to state and local offices, has endorsed San Juan County Council member Kevin Ranker for State Senate in the 40th Legislative District. This endorsement sets Kevin Ranker apart from a crowded field of Democrats running for the seat.
Kurt Fritts, executive director of Washington Conservation Voters said of Kevin, “Kevin Ranker is going to be the kind of environmental leader that we need in order to address the big issues that confront us, including: climate change, growth management, and preserving agricultural land and open space.”
Ranker, a longtime champion of environmental issues, believes that the environment and the creation of family-wage jobs are not mutually exclusive.
"It is possible to pursue economic development in a responsible way that preserves our environment;" said Ranker, "just because we are concerned about future generations does not mean that we have to neglect this one."
This endorsement comes at a great time in advance of the 40th LD's nominating convention on Sunday, May 18th at the Anacortes Library. Endorsements have also come from county officials in all three counties represented in the district, elected leaders from other districts that have worked with Ranker in his role as chair of the state Coastal Caucus, and federal elected officials like Congressman Norm Dicks. Ranker has also demonstrated his viability by raising over $20,000 in less than a month of fundraising.
"Washington Conservation Voters is not only committed to preserving the environment, but also standing behind their candidates," said Ranker. "This endorsement reflects the convictions and dedication that I have demonstrated while working for our region over the last four years, both at home and in Olympia." Additional endorsements are expected in the coming weeks.
